Alumna Pilots Virtual Family Medicine Preceptorship
Lisa Nash ā87 graduated from TCU with a degree in biology. Originally from Brock, Texas, a small town just west of Fort Worth, she grew up hearing about TCU. Since she was a small child, Nash always knew she wanted to be a doctor. The reputation of the pre-health program and the offer of a full scholarship made Nash choose to pursue her education at TCU. Nash developed a virtual family medicine preceptorship (FMP) for TCU students.
TCU STEM & Culture Symposium
The inaugural TCU STEM & Culture Symposium will focus on the theme āEmbrace Your Story: Bringing Your Whole Self to STEM.ā The virtual event will be held Friday, April 9 from 2-4 p.m. CST via Zoom. The symposium is open to students, faculty, staff.
Tesla Crash Test Engineer Alumnus Sean Haight's Post-Graduation Journey
Sean Haight ā09 graduated from TCU with a degree in mechanical engineering. He went on to earn his masterās in transportation safety engineering from George Washington University, and then his doctorate in computational science from George Mason University. As the Senior Staff Passive Safety Test Engineer at Tesla, he is in charge of crash and safety testing.
Working Toward a Brighter Future: A Look Inside the Sustainability Initiative

In Memory of Robert (Bob) Neilson: 1948-2020
Robert Hugh Neilson (Bob) passed away on December 17, 2020 after a seven month battle with glioblastoma. He was born on January 24, 1948 and grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. As he grew older, his early boredom with school turned into a career in education and research. Neilson attended Carnegie Mellon University where he majored in chemistry and was a part of the Army ROTC program.
Alumna Conducts Plant Disease Research
Romina Gazis ā07 graduated from TCU with a masterās degree in environmental sciences. Her program lasted three years, instead of the traditional two years, because she was part of a team of students and researchers from the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT). They spent two semesters doing fieldwork in the Amazon at Los Amigos Biological Station, which was extremely important for the foundation of her career.
Chemistry Professor Publishes Historical Fiction Novel
Eric Simanek, Robert A. Welch Chair of Chemistry, released a novel entitled, āThe Whiskey Thieves: An American Adventure in 1871.ā The novel was self-published through Amazon and is now available for purchase.
Endowed Chair and Monnig Meteorite Gallery Curator Earns Professional Museum Learning Certificate
Rhiannon Mayne, Oscar and Juanita Monnig Endowed Chair of Meteoritics and Planetary Science, recently completed a seven-week online course to receive the Informal Learning in Museums Certificate. This professional certificate is earned through an innovative program that immerses museum, zoo, aquarium and science outreach professionals and volunteers in informal and free-choice learning theories.
