Core Curriculum

Your success is at our Core. TCU’s Core Curriculum prepares you to live and work in today’s ever-evolving diverse and global society. It encourages you to be intellectually curious and ask big questions about the world and your place in it.

Special Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program, students must submit an application and receive formal approval from the BGS program director. As part of the process, a personalized degree plan must also be approved.

The chosen area of emphasis must include courses that are available to BGS students. If the area of emphasis includes courses that are restricted to declared majors, students must complete those courses before officially declaring the BGS major or an agreement with the department in question will be required.

What Sets Us Apart

TCU’s teacher-scholar model means professors are both teachers and researchers — often with involvement of both undergraduate and graduate students. When your teachers are involved scholars themselves, everyone benefits.

At TCU, faculty collaborate across disciplines in teaching and research. Our goal is for students to build on their knowledge, making valuable connections between concepts from different areas of study to enhance the critical thinking skills needed for problem solving in today’s world.

International awareness and cross-cultural understanding are critical to TCU’s mission. Our faculty members help students gain a deeper understanding of other viewpoints and experiences — an essential skill to tackle real-world projects.

Career Prospects

Like all of our programs centered around a liberal arts core curriculum, the general studies degree is based on a tradition of academic inquiry, opening up the door to a variety of careers.
